Garrard 301 Plinth Building Part 1
I've had this Garrard for a few years and it still works very well. I built this plinth in 45 minutes and it was supposed to be temporary but no I used it for many years.
This is the before pic.
I met local Klipsch forum member Kenny this year. His woodworking skills are top notch. I was lamenting my lack of a proper plinth for this great table while we were listening to the Jubilees. A few emails later and he has offered to help me with the plinth. It is great to have generous forum members in town.
He recommended some 13plly plywood so I picked up a sheet at a local supplier.
This is a sheet of 13 ply ripped down to 21 x 18 inch pieces. Ten total with one used as a template. If we use 9 layers of 13 ply that is 117 ply layers... Dang...
This was the most time consuming aspect of the plinth build but the rounded corners look spectacular.
Here is where we stopped on Saturday. That is alot of progress in 4 hours.
About two hours or so on Tuesday night and we have everything cut and tonearm placement is spot on.
This has far exceeded my expectations.
Now I have homework.
Glue
Clamp
Repeat as necessary.
Sand
Pick veneer.
Thank you Kenny for your time and help building this Garrard 301 plinth.
Top notch.
Part 2 to follow.
