why we bother

After a work week that was catastrophic on a near biblical scale I really needed to wind down but was having difficulty getting there. I hadn't listened to any music for what seemed like forever but actually 8 days. I usually have the system on each night and most of the weekend if I am home. I had been so wound up it was not possible to do any listening.
A friend Richard Albright had loaned me an active crossover to experiment with and to nail down settings and tweaks for another project in the works. I had set everything up and finally turned the system on with basic settings for my system. This will be refined but initially I think there is something to putting the crossover further up the chain. I have to tell some friends that they were right.
So early this morning I get everything hooked up and put on a few of my favorite 70's African records and then a few I hadn't heard yet. The second the needle landed in the groove I was starting to recover. Sometimes we forget the power of music and its ability to change or mood and frame of mind. After burning through a couple records I was starting to feel more like myself again. This is why we bother to put these systems together not because the gear is cool but because music can change us.
As for the modest system I have cobbled together it wouldn't be where it is today if it weren't for good friends out there who have steered me in the right direction. Thanks guys you rock.
